I work on a small after hours ITC course, 10 weeks involving various IT skills, culminating in a small video project.

Wondering whether iPads could be used for that - the requirement would seem to be for ways to get video onto it from a camera and to edit that video - which seems beyond whats been shown so far, but who knows...

It will be interesting to see how the iPad sees videos on USB cameras and SD cards through Apple's iPad Camera Connection Kit and if it will let you trim them through the regular methods:

iPad Camera Connection Kit

The Camera Connection Kit gives you two ways to import photos and videos from a digital camera. The Camera Connector lets you import your photos and videos to iPad using the camera’s USB cable. Or you can use the SD Card Reader to import photos and videos directly from the camera’s SD card.

Just to add onto that - imagine a Flip HD or similar USB HD camcorder and Skype/Ustream/Qik... – Kevan Emmott Feb 1 at 20:57
Oh sweet! I was worried that would just be for stills. My guess would be that the media goes straight into the "Camera Roll" where you could edit and trim the video as you already can on an iPhone 3GS. One would hope that Reel Director could take over from there. (itunes.apple.com/gb/app/reeldirector/…) – Fraser Speirs Feb 1 at 21:03

if it's anything like the older Camera Connection Kit, it should just work with other cameras. I have 2 Canons, and very old Kodak and a Nikon. I was able to use all of them (get pix off) with no problem.

Warning. the ipod and the camera took huge hits on battery life when copying.. this was a few years ago though - might not be much of an issue now.

Something else that is interesting:

The iPad SDK documentation indicates that unlike the iPhone, the iPad has a "shared storage area/folder". On the iPhone, each app is walled off and unable to access the data from other applications. On the iPad however, this shared storage folder acts like a "My Documents" folder. So it would be possible to store a file in the folder & access it from multiple applications.

ie: you could import a video file from a SD card and open it up in one or more editing apps.

Also, according to the iPad SDK, the iPad will show up as an external storage device when plugged into a computer - you can drag & drop files to it.
